The Churches Panel
The Pentecostal Church
Standing in Chapel Street, formerly known as Greyhound Lane, the Pentecostal Church has taken over what was the Baptist Chapel. The date on the building is 1839.
Western House (Headquarters of the Gideons International)
The imposing building on the corner of George Street and Chapel Street was built in 1820. Once a private house, it also served as a doctor's house and surgery. Although not believed to have been an over riding factor in the Gideons International coming to Lutterworth, it is fitting that the organisation responsible for making the bible available to all, should have settled in John Wycliffe's town.
The Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady Of The Victories
The full title of the Roman Catholic Church on Bitteswell Road is the Roman Catholic Church of our Lady of Victories and St Adolphus. The church was opened in 1881 under the care of Father Hazeland who arrived in 1880. There being no Catholic place of worship in the area, the resourceful Father hired an unused loft, believed to be in the Denbigh Yard to take mass. Father Hazeland remained at Lutterworth until his death in 1940 and is remembered by the town in the naming of the Guthlaxton Road sheltered flats, Hazeland Court.
